Being a good friend is not just about having a good time with others, its also about how willing you are to put your friends first or point out when theyre doing something you dont agree with. Have a read through the following checklist and see how good a friend you really are. Are you a good listener? Part of being a good friend is about being willing to listen rather than just talk. This takes time and effort but if you can make time just to listen to others and respect what they have to say, then its a sign of a good friend. Are you approachable? Do your friends often turn to you first to share a problem or seek help? Are you willing to make yourself available to friends at short notice and welcome them if they turn up at your door? Are you trustworthy? If a friend tells you something personal are you good at keeping it in confidence, or do you go and tell everyone at the first opportunity? People need to know that they can trust a friends with important information and you will only store up trouble for yourself if you are seen as unreliable. A good friend is both trustworthy and reliable. Do you avoid gossiping about others? This is one of the biggest signs of a good friend and really does stand out. Do you avoid speaking badly about others or spreading rumors in order to hurt them? Do you defend friends when you hear others gossiping about them? If you avoid gossiping others will notice how different you are and soon realize what a truly good friend you are. Are you selfless rather than selfish? Do you put your friends needs above your own? Do you try to find a compromise if you cant agree with a friend? Are you willing to do something your friend wants to do for a change rather than forcing them to do what you want? If you are willing to put your friends first in most things then this is a sign of a good friend. Can you sensitively tell a friend what you really think? Good friends dont just go with the flow, sometimes they have to be honest and tell someone what they really think. Sometimes your friends might want to do something that is morally wrong or illegal or just plain unfair on another person. Are you able to tell your friend honestly what you think about it, without just going along with it? Hey, I despretely want a close christian friend I can confide in. Im happy to talk about anything and everything. Im a very caring person and enjoy listening to people. Im a fan of Simon Brading, Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman, and McFly, Nightwish, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Patty Griffin, Michelle Branch, Amy Winehouse, Priscilla Ahn, Rod Stewart, a few Cascada tracks (and I mean a few) and Anastacia. Films and TV shows I like are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz (theme here :-]), the Matrix triology, most films associated with the Monarchy, Mr and Mrs Smith, all of the Judge John Deed episodes, most of the new James Bonds, and a few chick flicks (common admit it, you like em too :-]), Life on Mars, all Harry Potter (but wasnt OOTP a bit disappointing??), Big Daddy, Garfield, RV, Caught on a train, Flight 93, Memoirs of a Geisha, Over the Hedge, The emperors new groove, all Lord of the Rings, Wallace and Gromit, Minority Report, King Kong, The day after tomorrow, Jonny English, Finding Nemo, Mission Impossible 3, Friends, Flightplan, stormbreaker and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and probably loads more but I cant think of them.... I came to Christ at a massive christian event, and have never regretted it: his Holy Spirit is AMAZING, makes me feel so humble layed at his feet in all-out worship. Ive helped a lot of people with their problems, such as rape, depression, suicidal feelings, relationship troubles etc. And im only too happy to help anyone else :-). The ultimate answer (and its what keeps me going with my faith) is that God is there and He helps, He really does, through sometimes mysterious ways, but all is for the best. Believe it. Some good books for Christians are Shock of Your Life by Adrian Holloway and his sequal Aftershock. If youre a lukewarm christian, or have only just shown an interest in Christ, these books are the next step in your faith. They give clear guidence through stories and are a massive wake up call to all those who are tag-alongs. Looking over at my to read pile, Im reading Every Young Mans Battle by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker with Mike Yorkey: this is a brilliant book which also teaches good life lessons through stories, but also with bible annotation (quotes and relgious teachings), The Word of the Street by Rob Lacey: a good clear book which translates the bible into modern text, easy to read, and with added humour^^, and finally, 90 minutes in Heaven by Don Piper: a truly breath-taking book which will, I promise you, blow you away,. Apart from the bible, this book and its meaning keep my faith alive. Worth every penny youve got.
